So I am trying to work on my first project in iMovie and I need some help. I have the AVI video on my desktop and in my iPhoto library but when I try to upload it to iMovie it says no matching video? Is AVI files not supported by iMovie or is there something else I am missing to upload the video?

Yes it opens and plays fine and when I tried to convert it to MP4 with some of the trial software out there it would upload to iMovie fine so I am guessing it must be the AVI format?
I'm using iMovie HD and I'm able to File>Import from the iPhoto folder and then play them. I noticed that the listed files in the folder for that date aren't actually playable .avis, so I dug into the Originals folder at the bottom of the same listing and found them there.
