Frustrated with the sluggishness that my 2 year old 2.2GHz Macbook Pro performs with when working with full HD video (I'm a quality freak, I'd hate to have to recapture all my footage in 3 years time because my current hardware is just over its head), and even Garageband seems to choke it down these days.
Do you guys feel that the new iMacs would handle the 1920x1080 video appropriately when importing and editing? I'm not sure where the hangup on the MBP is, if it's the processor, the speed of the hard drive (external 7200rpm connected with Firewire 400), or a combination of both, so I'm not sure that the new system would be able to cope any better.
I bought the MBP expecting to be more mobile than I am, but my usage over the past two years has seen it sitting on my desk 95% of the time. I'm not so sure now that the convenience of mobility is greater than the power of a desktop.
