iMovie hangs or gets stuck on certain frames

I'm getting really frustrated with iMovie, the video will hang or get stuck sometimes on clips. It seems really random, but will always stick in the same spot. Why it sticks I can't figure out. The only thing I can think of is that the clicks that will sometimes hang are usually short ones, less than 1sec. Is this a bug? Or what is going on? Can iMovie not handle half of a second clips?

Please help with advice on what to do!
