i went to apple store today to play with ilife 08 only to discover to my shock that there are NO THEMES in iMovie 08. While i applaud the new interface in trying to make things easier and faster, getting rid of themes was a big mistake; that was one of the biggest selling points for me in the first place to switch to mac because of the professional and beautiful looking films.

why they would remove this incredible feature of their software (in my opinion, their BEST feature) is beyond me. furthermore, why get rid of

Audio Effects
Video Effects
The Timeline
Having dual audio tracks
A lot of Transitions
A lot of Titles
And More! (in other words, what a piece of crap!)

would it be possible to install the rest of ilife 08 (iphoto, etc) and NOT install iMovie? will imovie HD still be able to interact with iphoto 08? or would it be possible to have both imovie HD and 08 on the same computer?

there is no imovie 07

imovie HD (06) will be stuck in a folder in the applications folder for your continued use, or yes you can selectively install only certain apps

i'm also a bit upset that imovie 08 has rid video/audio FX etc..

while not a huge issue, if i saved my project in imovie 08, is it still possible to add any video fx to the project using imovie hd?

seems like a bit of overkill to me though really..

and what about the soundtrack volume? in imovie hd using the timeline view, you could manually set the audio level and fade it up/down at whichever point you wanted - can you even do this in imovie 08?

thanks

Not sure about iMovie 08', but in case you feel limited you can always use GarageBand for your music.

When you install the new iMovie, your old one is saved in an "Old iMovieHD" folder. Apple also has it for download free, if you need to reinstall.

yes, but that's no good for messing with the volume of a track in relation to a video clip is it?
... i mean.. when a clip fades in, you also wants the music to fade in.. and same applies to fade out.. and at certain times you just want to kill the audio on track.. etc.. etc..

This surprised me. I could have sworn I heard Steve Jobs mention great video effects, etc. in the presentation. I looked forward to getting it, but if this is the case...no dice.

Someone could have deleted the theme after all it was a store demo, people tend to trash stuff.

That's my cents worth anyways.

As far as I can tell, you can't to that in iMovie '08. Lame.

I have been messing around with iMovie 08 and found out some stuff... you can have 2 or even three different audio tracks...you can do some automatic ducking...as far as a nice fade...im not sure yet. Everyone needs to actually get it and use if for a bit to see whether or not they like it.

As far as the additional themes...it is too bad they are gone...but if i had to choose, i would give up the themes for the new UI...just my thoughts though...
