I have iMovie 6.0.3, and am on a 12" Powerbook G4 running on OS X 10.4.11. I recently purchased the Canon HF10 video camera, and I cannot import the video files into iMovie. I've heard some people can do it, and others can't, but I've never been given a straight-up answer. I just want to know what's going on.

I have the camera plugged in, and I have two (one for the hard drive, one for the memory card) drives available on my desktop, but iMovie doesn't detect any device being plugged in and doesn't give me an option to import any files. When I check out the two drives on my desktop, I see nothing vaguely looking like a video file.

Some help would really be appreciated. Thank you!

That camera shoot AVCHD, which cannot be read by iMovie 6.

If I saved my video files to a memory card, and then used an external USB card reader, would that work to import video files?

No. You have to convert the video files before iMovie can read them. Or upgrade to iMovie 08 or 09.
