iMovie HD problems

I am having trouble opening a iMovie HD (10GB) file across a network. The file is stored on a server and when i try to open it using iMovie HD, the application stops responding. The same file will open no problem from the local MAC (using a MAC OS X Leopard). Has anyone had any issues opening files accross a network using a MAC???
