Imovie HD: Scrambled movie clips after power failure

I'm trying to edit my video footage that I shot using a MiniDv camera. I downloaded all the video onto an external HD using iMovie HD then saved.

Unfortunately,my footage ended up in the Trash after I either had a power failure or disconnected the drive without ejecting it (this happened months ago so it could be either or both, can't recall) and I had to recover it from there but in doing so all the different scenes got jumbled up and now in the viewing board I have clips from the first cassette next to scenes from the last and so on.
My question is how can I get all my clips in the order they were shot without doing it manually. There are over 300 of them and since I had already done quite a bit of editing, I don't really want to transfer from camera to hard drive all over.
I looked for a feature that would let me sort the clips in order of their # but no luck.
Also, some clips are labelled xClip # and other similar ones just Clip #. I compared the two and don't see any differences. Why would some show up as xClips?
