so today was the first time i try iMovie..i noticed that it doesnt extract mpeg files with their Audio...and all it supports is mpeg4 >_< ...that kinda sucks..is there any plugins??

and plus when you extract the audio its .aiff..can i make it extract with .mp3?

iMovie is a video editor and thus supports video formats which are suited to being edited. Most of the formats you are talking about are delivery formats not editing formats. You want your video to be in one of the DV formats to edit.
 
If quicktime can play your mpeg4 file even in avi container then iMovie automatically converts it into dv or hdv. It does not extract to MP3, as you can also edit the sound to some extent in iMovie.

However, the new iMovie seems to have MPEG2 and AVCHD capability.
