Hi, I am new to iMovie. I am just trying to create simple photo movie with a few songs. When I click Audio and select iTunes only my podcasts are listed. I have checked share library with other XML apps in iTunes. I use Apple Music but I own 80% of the songs on my library. I am sure this is simple and I am missing something?

Anyone have a clue here? Bugging me and I’m trying to get something very simple done. Thanks in advance.
[doublepost=1504645387][/doublepost]I think I found my answer. I have to own the song and have it downloaded. My library is a mix of songs I own and Apple Music. All is kept in iCloud. Now if I could just have a view in iTunes of what I own vs. Apple Music. Ugh.

Sorry, I don't use Apple Music. But don't you have a dropdown button at the top left of the window in iTunes that says "Music"? There should be an option in that menu "This Computer" that ought to only show what is actually in your local library. That same menu should have an "Edit..." button that allows you to configure it.

Thank you. Yes, I use this all the time to see what is downloaded (on computer). It's under view. However, this doesn't tell me what I own (purchased before Apple Music) and what is added via Apple Music.

I am painfully finding out which songs I own and which ones are part of my Apple Music membership. It's all good, trying to learn iMovie. Question about photos, when I "import" to iMovie, does it make another copy or just read them from my photo library?

I never used iMovie. But in iTunes you just need to set the Music view to "Songs" and activate "Kind" and/or "iCloud Status" by a right click on the bar where Artist, Album, Song etc. are listed.

Then you can click on "Kind" if you like to sort it by that one to see what belongs to Apple Music and what is your's. You can also see if it is downloaded when "iCloud Download" is activated.

Should look similar to my screenshot that after you did it, I just moved the important columns to the front to hide my music. :D

Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to find a solution for me, I appreciate it. I use iTunes Match, so "Matched" should be what I own.

Yes "Matched" or "Uploaded" is what you own* and everything in the "Kind" column called

ACC audio file
MPEG audio file
Purchased ACC audio file
Purchased MPEG-4 video file
etc.

Only if it's listed as Apple Music AAC audio file it's not your's.

By the way my iTunes Match subscription has expired months ago and even was on another Apple-ID. I think you also don't need it anymore if you have an Apple Music subscription if I don't miss anything. Seems to work like before.

*And always keep a backup of your purchased files or convert them to a standard AAC audio file. Just select the files and click on convert in the file menu.
Some of my purchased album's bonus tracks are not available anymore for download and in Apple Music. :(
The conversion format will always be what is set for importing CDs (standard is AAC 256).
Downside is, you have those albums twice in iTunes if you don't keep the converted files somewhere else. You shouldn't lose any quality for converted purchased files as long as they are matched.

Thanks. I scoured through the iCloud tags. I had Apple Music, Purchased, Matched, Uploaded, Waiting and Not Available. The Waiting and Not Available were obscure or music video's. There weren't many so I deleted them. Really nothing I wanted anyway or I can find them again if I needed to.

In terms of Match, I have been wondering why I needed it since Apple Music was released. The only thing I can think of that it provides me with songs that are "Uploaded" (unable to match). For me, most of these are tracks that were created by my son who is a musician. I don't want to lose these or take a chance at them not downloading if I cancelled match. It's only $25 per year but I can't imagine there are many subscribers.

When I separated from my now ex-wife 6 years ago, I left behind my PC with all my music on it. At the time, Match allowed all my files on that machine to upload and for me to have access to them, including the sentimental songs my son made. I do have backups of everything from 6 years ago and back. I am guessing over the last 6 years, 3 years are purchased and the last three Apple Music.

All this said, aren't purchased part of my Apple ID and fairly certain to be accessed always? Curious what you think of my Match suspicion and "Uploads".

Strange, conversion is now a menu with several options and everything is grayed out. Also for my not purchased music. I hope it's just a bug in High Sierra or iTunes.

Normally a right click had been enough to get the convert option if I remember correctly.

My Library is so messed up.... and most purchases were made from my Austrian ID, what I don't use anymore for now.

But I found an example. That song had been purchased by me and converted directly in iTunes. All purchased tags are gone and it also matches and unavailable file just upload like in Match.

For my German ID Match has expired years ago and everything seems to work like before in my Austrian ID with Match only and no Apple Music. Of course I had to match/upload everything again by activation the iCloud music library. Not sure what happens if you just cancel Match if you already have Apple Music.

Edit: Last screenshot was just for showing that upload works if there is no match.
[doublepost=1504705704][/doublepost]Forgot to mention that the unavailable tracks are from the Austrian iTunes Store and it's an Austrian artist. Maybe they were never available in Germany and I can still download+convert them by switching the ID.

Don't know if record labels are allowed to force Apple remove music from your purchases if they are not available for purchase anymore.

I believe the song has to be downloaded to convert it?

I am going to leave Match be for now. I don’t want to mess up anything for $25 USD a year. It’s all been working nicely for 6 years. I do think at some point Apple is going to do away with Match. They don’t even promo it. I have had the discussion with many friends on why do we need it if we have Apple Music.

I just don’t want to lose anything I own that is not on iTunes or matchable.

I guess that’s one way to look at it. I think the opposite. It works very well for me.

Well it's just not for everyone. But my son in law said that Apple Music "changed his life". :)
:D ha ha, well that's a true Apple fan! I wouldn't go that far, but discovering iTunes Match in the middle of my divorce certainly improved my life! Music is soothing.

Thanks... Apple should pay me for the free advertising, LOL. I got an Apple ][ in 1978 and she was using that before the "Fat Mac" 512 in the picture. And of course, the terminal was so I could use my blazing fast 1200 baud modem to login to the VAX 11/750 (running BSD unix) at work. :D

Sorry to take this thread so far off-topic...
