Hi is there a way to get iMovie timeline layout to look like this?
I want it so that when I add a second video it goes onto a new line like in the second picture.

Yes, click those three, small blue buttons on the righthand end of the central divider. However, iMovie won't start a new line until the first line is full, so your second screenshot won't happen.
