iMovie, iDVD Default Opening

Is there a way to set these two programs so that NOTHING opens up, except for the menu items at the top? If I want to create a new DVD or Movie, it takes a few minutes to open up (dual 1.0 G4, 1.5 GB RAM) the last project I worked on - very annoying!
 
anyone?

I want to start a new iMovie or iDVD project and, by default, the software always opens up the last project worked on - but, that takes a few minutes sometimes, depending on the size of the older project.
