iMovie, Importing, and getting rid of Clips

Hi all,

I'm using iMovie 09 and a HD camcorder that encodes in AVCHD. I currently use iMovie to import the video and it works fantastically. The problem is that iMovie also creates automatic clips of the movie (which are huge) when I look at them in Finder. Is there a way to turn that off? Am I messing something up?
