imovie importing quits after a minute

this is driving me nuts. firewire, sony dcr hc21. the whole application quits after a minute of importing. what should i check?

What version of iMovie are you using? Are you saving to the internal disk or an external one? Does the app quit silently or give you an error message? Do you have any third party QuickTime plugins installed? Sorry for all the questions, but really need a bit more information on what your set up is.

2.2 mbp with 2gb ram - nothing else running
program quits and disappears without error message
i'm using the internal disk 7200 rpm with 60gb free
nothing third party is installed

imovie 08 - seriously pissing me off.
it's so slow in general and choppy as well

Same here

Exactly same problem here on brand new MBP 2.2GHz and Canon MXV-450 with iMovie 08 (7.1 update). The Canon works beautifully on white MacBook and iMovie 06.

Seems like many users experience this (according to some googling).

It sure is annoying and hugely embarrassing to Apple.

yes, imovie 06 works fine for me. that's how i imported the footage. now i can move it to 08
