I am SURE that this is covered somewhere but after 5 searches without luck, I am going with a post.

What determines whether iMovie creates new clips on recording stops when importing.

When I import from my camcorder, iMovie creates a new clip each time it hits where I stopped/restarted the filming. Perfect.

When my broghter imports from his camcorder, iMovie doesnt catch those stop/restarts and just creates one big clip. This make for some difficult editing.

Is this an iMovie issue? Is this a specific camcorder issue? Any solutions?

I have a feeling that this is a camcorder issue. I'm sure that with certain camcorder brands, the start/stop is marked somehow, and it is able to send a signal that this is a new clip to iMovie. I imagine it is a built-in feature.

I'm not an expert, so if i'm completely wrong, some of these very knowledgable people will probably correct me.

Best,

Brian
