iMovie issues with Mini DV

Hello all,

I am currently facing issues when importing video from my Canon Camcorder which uses mini DV tapes. When importing the videos the aspect ratio is correct (it was recorded in 4:3). However, when it is dragged into the project window, the clips appear zoomed in. I have tried using the other aspects offered (widescreen and iPhone) and nothing works. I figure that maybe the clips need to be converted into a different file format or something, but am getting quite frustrated.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a USB Firewire converter that I plug right into my Mac, then just import through iMovie.

i had an old canon with mini DV and i also imported through FW. i never had an issue. i thought that maybe you had pulled it onto the HD and then imported to imovie. sorry i can't be of help.
