iMovie; Linking to videos instead?

hey everyone,

I'm making a showreel for potential employers and have videos of projects on my MacBook.

When I create a project in iMovie and go to bring in those videos; it appears to duplicate the videos inside the Movies section of my MacBook and this results in a 50gb file called 'iMovie project' or something.

Can you avoid this so that I'm only linking to the videos in the app rather than pointlessly duplicating them?

Depending on what you want to do, you might be able to accomplish the same thing not using iMovie. The reason that it creates the copies (iirc, it's been a while since I've used it) is that converts them to a format that is much easier/faster to manipulate, but at the cost of size.

Are you just looking to stitch them together with maybe some fade effects?
