hi, new to macrumours so dont shoot me if this is answered elsewhere...?

i import from Sony DVCAM (tape) into iMovie '08
quality looks great while viewing from Events window
(The file size of a clip is 35mb in Events folder.)
However, after i click and drag the same clip from Events into the
iMovie Project window, the quality falls off the map...
The file size is now 52kb (from 35mb)

I am using 'Large' file option (not 'Full')
I understand I can expect some loss of quality but ...

any assistance greatly appreciated. thanks

Secondly, anyone kno how to change the default font when adding
Titles to a project?

sun is shining in Bondi...

The project file size is not representing the actual video footage, but the things you have done on the timeline and so forth.

The project file will not store actual video information, it points to the captured video.

Maybe FCE would be a better choice, if you shoot DVCam, not because of the quality, but a DVCam camera points to someone who wants more than just a simple video editor.

Also Large and Full settings are for HD footage, and DVCam is SD, so the PAL/NTSC DV setting should do fine.

spinnerlys , hey tx.
didnt realise imovie couldnt handle higher quality. was surprised at
result of an exported movie i did on DVCAM. was really no better than
another video i had done on imovie using video mode on a small pocket still camera...

FCE huh? ok thanks
