iMovie - Music randomly goes louder when transitioning between video and picture?

Was messing around with iMovie today. When doing a transition between a video and a picture the backing track virtually doubles in volume!

Anyone else having this?

I friend sent me a video that he edited on the iPhone 4 and the music is noticeably louder when it changes to a picture.

Yes, the volume adjusts depending whether you're playing video w/ audio enabled. I don't see anywhere to change this. I assume the idea if it's lower to hear the audio of the clip. That's reasonable, but it would seem odd if you're going between video and still though!

Yep it's aggressive audio dynamic-range compression so that the audio level seems loud whether or not there is audio from the video footage or not. At the moment the way round it is to turn off audio on the video clips - that way your background music will stay at a constant level.

I actually think it would be useful to be able to have more independent control over the audio levels of the music and footage audio, (although that makes it more likely that users can produce edited video with too-quiet audio, or with distorted overloaded audio).

Then again, the fact that I'm editing video on my phone is still pretty amazing!

For what it's worth - I've been editing on my 3GS for almost a year now with ReelDirector which I consider a must have and is far more capable.
