I'm using iMovie 6 and looking to edit just a small portion of a very long movie. When I import the move it takes ages (over 130 mins). If I know I'm only going to want a small bit of the importing file is there an easier way of doing this?

Cheers.

I'd split your movie into scenes, and edit individually. Best not to have an enormous timeline.

mmm, nah - File>Import and find the movie i want, then clicking Open gives me the "Importing Files" status bar as it imports the entire movie - taking AGES. Looking for a way of saying only the small bits I need.

Any clearer?

this may be only in Quicktime Pro, but I believe you can mark the beginning and end of a clip you want. Then save that clip.

Yeah, so you've got a massive movie, and hence a massive timeline. I'd open that file up (i know, it takes ages) and then copy/paste scenes into their own project files, so that in the future you can edit specific bits at a time.
