imovie not importing full movie

hey everyone,

i am trying to import a movie into imovie '09 and it only imports 9 minutes out of a 2 hour movie. is there a limit on how much can be imported at one time or something like that? or has anyone had this issue themselves?

edit: the movie has been ripped from a dvd and is now an image on my desktop.
