Imovie not seeing Camcorder

Now i plug it in , but imovie isnt recognized that i just pluged in the camera, how can i capture the footage onto my comptuer, its a hi8mm camera , it came with some software but it is for windwos. (videowave and MGI and photosuite) any help would be great, could i get virtual pc to use these programs? Thanks

I think you got scammed. I haven't been able to get iMovie to ever work with a USB adapter or Camera or anything, but as soon as you plug in the Firewire.. it's Magic and has never failed for me.

Also, the title of the item you purchased is the "Belkin USB Video Bus II for PC". So chances of getting it to work with a Mac are even slimmer.

yea im usin it on my friends laptop which is a pc, it woks so he is sending me the video , but its in avi format and in mgi video lab the program it comes with we can view wat we captured but outside of the program the filename is avi movie but it only plays sound in quicktime , wmv, fcp , my friend got it to play in an avi viewer program so im now tryin to get a good video converter to make it into mpeg. anyone know any good ones , thanx

iMovie only works with FireWire devices and DV, although you can import certain other videos. You can only capture using FireWire though.

imove & Final cut express will only work with firewire as the video input. You may be able to capture the video from the usb device using BTV and then import it into imovie.
