iMovie OSx Firewire connection controls camcorder but no movie data

We control the camera just fine, press import starts the camera, press it again stops it, but nothing shows on the screen and no clip is imported.

I always click the Play button first then Import.

Probaby a software problem...

What we do works fine on another computer with the same version of iMovie (4.01). Reinstalling the 4.01 update makes no difference, nor does pressing play first, then import.

It acts as if it is working normally in all ways except the video is not being imported.
