iMovie problems on new iMac (intel)

Used iMovie quite successully on old iMac. Have just upgraded to Intel iMac 2ghz and 2mb memory. When trying to apply some transition effects to photographs slotted into my iMovie they just don't work and turn the picture and sometimes movie clip black. Most work ok but some transitions don't. Any ideas? Is this a glich that is recognised and will be addressed as bugs are ironed out. Regards

My friend had some issues with iMovie on his Intel iMac when he first got that (including iSight problems in iMovie). I think all the recent updates to iLife etc have helped. Have you got all the updates installed?
