iMovie question (import)

I am trying to import 3081 3.7 MP still images so I can make a time-lapse movie, so far it has taken over 10 hours and still not complete, my system is a 4GB RAM, iMac 2.8 extreme.

does this seem normal?

In the activity usage of disk and processor is very low, just seems to be importing very slowly.

to answer my own question,

do not use iMove to import photo sequence, but use Quicktime 7 Pro, so much easier, then I import into iMovie and add the sound.
