Hey, I'm using iMovie to make a video of me and my friends with a song playing in the background.
i split up my video into a few separate parts (ALL WITH THE SAME AUDIO LEVELS).

whenever i playback the full project, the background audio stays the same, but the video's audio drops to almost mute randomly in the middle of the project. when i combine the clips (rather than splitting them), the audio comes back fully. help?

If your doing like a music video, and you have the song in itunes.
Would it work for you, if you just dragged the song into project? (it will be detached), or is that how it is now?
I'm taking it that the audio is shot in the video together. I can't answer the actual problem on why it mutes in the middle.
You could double check on the videos in the inspector(blue gear in clip), Audio Adjustments, and see if Volume is all the way up in each one.
