I've just returned to an mp4 file exported from iMovie after upgrading to Catalina (10.15.5) and when I play it in Quicktime (10.5) it runs at an extremely high frame rate (an 11 min clip is played in a few seconds). I went back to iMovie (10.1.15) with the intention of re-exporting only to find that the clip runs super fast there too. The mp4 runs correctly in VLC. Anyone got any idea what's going on here?

Thanks in anticipation for any assistance with this.

Simon

Yes I've checked that. That is set to "Normal".

It's as if iMovie and QuickTime use a common software component for playback that doesn't work under Catalina. Could that be right?

I've now checked previous iMovie projects and other .mov .mp4 files. They all display the same behaviour in Quicktime and iMovie. However, the .mp4 and .mov files play OK in VLC.

UPDATE!
I've now restarted my Mac (for about the fifth time) and now both QT and iMovie are working...
Windows PC behaviour comes to the Mac!
Sorry to have bothered you. But the support was appreciated.

If it happens again, try force quitting the coreaudiod process in Activity Monitor. It will immediately relaunch, and when it does your video playback should work.
