Imovie Stops And Starts

Can anyone tell me why after importing my Video (about 20 min - 1 hour) into imovie (Ver 5) and doing all the transitions and titles, playback at first appears to be going ok then periodically scenes and audio will freeze, sometimes with audio continuing, and then the movie and audio will continue as normal.

Has anybody else experienced similar problems? Anyone have any suggestions?

What spec machine are you using?
