Hello,

I have an iMovie project on my Macbook and my parents (who live far away) need it in DVD format. Here's my plan:

1. Export project to MOV format.
2. Upload the MOV file to the internet.
3. My parents download the file to their iMac.
4. My parents use the iMac (OSX Lion) to write it onto a DVD.

What's the best / simplest / easiest / user-friendly way to execute step no. 4?

Also, is there some simpler way to do this without exporting the project?

Thanks a lot.

Here's a simpler plan.

Export the Video (any format),
Go to iDVD, Export in Disk Image
Send Disk Image to Parents
Parents will burn Disk Image

Thanks for the suggestion. The problem, however, is with uploading / downloading a DVD image which would probably be 10 times the size of the MOV file.

They can use Burn to make their dvd, which is free:

or Roxio's Toast, which you pay for:

or this one which is cheaper than Toast, but pretty much the same"

No, because you would have to send them the iMovie Project along with the associated Event.

Isn't there any free software that Apple provides for this? Doesn't iDVD do this? I can't verify this right now because I have a MBA and there's no optical drive.

Yes and no. Apple used to supply iDVD as standard but it's been missing on new computers since(I think) Lion. You can still buy versions of iLife on Amazon and such that still include iDVD.

If you have iDVD on your MBA, you can use iDVD and then save your iDVD project as a disc image. Then take that disc image to a Mac with a Superdrive and burn to a dvd using Disk Utility.
