Hey friends,

This problem flummoxed a very patient Genius today (who advised me to reinstall iMovie, or just buy the new iLife), so I bring it to you all here:

On my new MB, I've had this problem with iMovie transitions since the beginning (last October). Anytime I add a fade-out (or other transition), the audio cuts off abruptly, and is replaced with some kind of looping audio clip from the preceding transition. It sounds pretty bad, and I have no idea why it's doing this.

Here's a very short example of what I'm talking about. You can hear the applause disappear as soon as the little girl hugs me, replaced by some piano notes from earlier in the clip. So weird. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks folks.

It happens to me every now and then. The repeated audio section is from just moments before the transition happens. Usually it is just the background noise, so you cannot tell unless you really pay attention, but sometimes it can be distracting so I just turn down the audio during that transition to get around the problem or use fade out and fade in instead of cross-fade.

My fade out transition fix

One work-around I have is to go under the Advanced menu and Extract Audio. The extracted audio appears as a separate clip in audio track 1 of the timeline viewer. You can then add your transition (my issue being the Fade Out) to your video, and make sure the sound is turned off.
Then you can have the sound turned on for the new audio clip and just use the "sliders" (those yellow and purple dots" to fade out your sound.
This is a very frustrating problem. You'd think Apple would have all the kinks worked out after 10(?) years. Maybe there is some magic little preference or button I am unaware of but this is how I do it for now. I hope this helps.

Hi, any fixes on this yet? I usually have over 50 transitions to FIX for each project I work on so this is a HUGE time waster.

In my experience it happens when adding transitions to a project on my Intel Mac which was originally created on a Power Mac. Any corroborations to this scenario?

- bummed out to the max

P.S. I believe we're all talking about iMovie up to version 6 here. Not interested in using the more recent (worse) versions - just getting version 6 to work as it's supposed to.
