iMovie transitions question -- help ??

Ever since I upgraded from iMovie5 to iMovie HD, most of
the transitions -- even in the still photos, do not work.

I have tried this for many months and only 'Wash in' and 'Wash out' work.

Any ideas ??

I can see the previews for everything else (like the twirl, billow, cross dissolve, etc...), but when I go to apply it, the "Add" button remains grey.

I've tried adjusting to longer photo times, but that did not help, either.

Anyone able to help out ??
