iMovie v FCP X - Speeds

I'm finding that adding a text transition to FCP X and the time it's taking to render it with the slightest of edits is taking a long time! On the other hand if I do the same thing within iMovie it's faster and doesn't make make the skimming choppy and laggy.

Are there settings in FCP X that I haven't switched on or off which is causing this lag I'm getting from it?
