I am experiencing some issues with iMovie.
I have been using iMovie '11 to import VHS video, through a Sony TRV-20 to a Mac. The Macbook I originally used was a 2008 Macbook with an external drive for storage. This Macbook is limited to running Lion.
I wanted to use my newer Macbook Pro (2011, I7, Mavericks) to perform the same import.
So here are the issues:
1. Using iMovie '13 (10.0.2) I can see the Video camera and see the VHS video playing through the camera on the import window. BUT, when I stop the import the event is empty. I tested iMovie using the iSight camera and it will capture and populate the event.
Downgrading to iMovie '11 (9.0.9) I can capture video and see the video in the event.
Not sure what is wrong here, but iMovie '13 looks broken.
2. Storage, I have a Drobo 5N so I created a sparsebundle in the correct format and mounted it so I could use that for the iMovie '13 Library. This appeared to work. BUT, when I downgraded to iMovie '11, this version would not attempt to use the mounted sparsebundle.
So, any advice on what to attempt next?
Stay with the older iMovie and directly attached storage?
When the drive fills up move the event and project to the Drobo?
I have a large number of VHS tapes I want to preserve.
