I'm new to Apple software and am trying to figure out the difference in iMovie and Final Cut. I am looking to transfer video from my Sony Handycam onto the Macbook Pro and burn DVDs. Is there any reason I would need Final Cut instead of just using the iMovie software?

iMovie is a consumer grade video editing application that comes free with every Mac from Apple. Final Cut is more advanced and would require a bit of know how. If you're just getting into movie editing then Final Cut may be too much for you. Final Cut may also be too much if all you want to do is edit home videos of your puppy licking your kid's face.

You have to decide what level of editing you want to do. iMovie is very capable and would suit most casual user needs.
