I have imported video from SD card to iMovie and now going to save as XML for FCE. The question is, once the video is imported to iMovie then exported for FCE is the video still at the highest quality or is it better to convert MOD files to dv or mpeg then bring to FCE?

Once you convert the clips on the card into QTs that iMovie and FCE can work with the quality isn't going to change when you change editing applications.

Thanks I just didnt want iMovie compressing the footage if I chose to export to FCE.

The XML is basically just a text document containing data about your project. It doesn't contain the media used in the project or anything like that.
