First of all, I HIGHLY suggest deleting iMovie 08' and downloading 06' from Apple's website. However, I will tell you how to burn the movie to a DVD.
The easiest way I found is to used iDVD.
Here's what you do:
1. File>Export
2. When the menu for exporting comes up, click iDVD and then Share
3. iDVD will open with your project ready to burn. However, you have to choose a menu first. If you want your movie to play a small clip on the menu, drag the file into any of the "Drop Zones"
4. Simply click and change any buttons to what you want them and then click the button next to the Play button. It looks like a closed camera eye.
Your video should burn without a problem this way. If this doesn't work, keep me posted
