Hello People,

Switched to Macbook (Pro) from PC for the first time in my life. I browsed around for lightning to USB-C connector and few other accessories. Just want to know if buying non-Apple brand accessories would impact my Macbook in any way? If not, I could just buy these cables for $6 instead of $30.

Appreciate your inputs.

Cheers, H

Depends on who you buy them from. Generally, you can find quality substitute cables and adapters from on line resellers that have a good reputation. Resellers such as monoprice.com, Amazon, and several others stock quality cables and adapters.

I have found some cables, I wouldn't call them "unbranded" because of course, they do have a brand, that is superior to the Apple included cables. Most recently a Uni USB-C to USB-C charging cable for my MBP that I much prefer to the stiff one that Apple provided with the laptop.

There are also a number of third-party cables that have the Apple-sanctioned MFi logo from Anker, Griffin and Belkin. These included logos that indicate the product is Made For iPad, iPhone, etc. More info here..https://developer.apple.com/programs/mfi/
