Anyone know how to, or what to use to get AVCHD into Photos for Mac?

It used to import fine on iPhoto. I've been waiting and waiting for Photos for Mac to get this removed feature back, it's now at v3 and still no where to be seen.

It's video from my Digi Cam. Rather not convert it, I use iCloud photo library so I want it imported for backup.

Thanks

I can’t recall for sure, but for some reason I recall being able to simply change the container and it would then allow me to import it.

Also have experienced on importing my .mts(similar to AVCHD) files to Mac Photos, last I get a video converter from Cisdem and converted them, then imported.

Ideally I don't want to convert before importing, it'll take ages and also lose some quality, and then if want to edit later having to convert again.

Can't believe Apple haven't updated Photos for Mac to support this yet, especially since iPhoto did.

Still wanting info on this from other users with same situation please. Why did Apple remove and not re-add the import AVCHD facility I don't know into Photos for Mac, we are now on v3, iPhoto had it...come on Apple.

A client just called me with this same issue, newly introduced after she upgraded to High Sierra. She used to be able to import AVCHD video directly into Photos. So today we tinkered around and discovered that we could use iMovie to import these videos instead. Then selected them in iMovie, chose "Show in Finder" from the menus, and then dragged those .mov video files into Photos. It's a bit of a pain, not as easy as it was before, but at least it works.

Mount your SD or USB device and open mounted drive, Drill down PRIVATE/AVCHD right click "Show package contents", select BDMV and right click "Show package contents", your videos will be in the STREAM folder and can be drag/dropped into Photos.

Looks like the most recent update to macOS High Sierra, 10.13.6, has incorporated a fix for at least some of these issues:
