Import problems - FC Express

[OJvision]

Hello---High School Media Production teacher here. We dumped a bunch of old video from cameras and now they are not being recognized by FCX or even iMovie. I THINK we migth have dumped a driver (maybe) which is not letting the software ID it. However, the problem is consistent whether the video is an external memory card or an internal hard drive on the camera.

Tips...ideas...experience?

any info as to the type of file (.mov, .avi, mp4 etc) & what the camera used to shoot on would be helpful

Sounds you're working with AVCHD. You need to copy the complete file structure from the card to your computer. Don't try to open any of the video files. It won't work. You need to import the stuff into FCE via Log and Transfer.
