Gotta question. I have a new iMac and I noticed that when I'm importing CD's, some CD's will import faster into iTunes than others. It can range from anywhere from 2.3x to 13.8x and higher. How come?

If a CD is scratched/dirty it will import much slower than a clean new one. Also some copy protected CDs will import slower. And the complexity of the music will also affect the speed.

If you've enabled Error Correction in iTunes importing preferences theat too might slow down importing.

Last, but not least, other processes/applications running while importing may also take its share of CPU cycles, thus reducing speed further.

well this might irrelevant to yours because you have an iMac...but on my powerbook ive noticed that whether or not my ac adapter is plugged in...the speed varies...its faster when its plugged in for me...

Probably because the CPU is set in reduced mode whenever the PB is on battery power, by default.
