I have been doing some testing in a couple games using the CHUD tools processor preferences. It seems that some games actually loose performance when hyperthreading (HT) is enabled. My guess is that by default extra threads are HT on the main processor, taking away from it's performance on the main thread of the game that demands the most resources. So it seems for single processor tasks, HT negatively affects performance. For anything that benefits from multiple processors, HT will probably help as there is no 1 main thread running 90% of the program.

To disable HT you just need to download apple'e CHUD tools, then go into extras and install the processor prefs pane. Uncheck the box marked HT and there you go. You may be able to optimize your performance in different applications if you turn HT on/off depending on what you are about to run.
