At the keynote Schiller said all the iMacs are individually calibrated before they leave the manufacturer. Does this mean it would be important to save the default color profile that is shipped with your specific iMac in case you lose the contents of your HD?
 
Why would you even try to change the color on if the screen calibrated? I think that's a bigger question

Doubt the calibration is implemented at the OS level - probably at the hardware level.

Keeping track of each individual iMac's profile during OS installation or repairs etc. would be a logistical nightmare.
