I imported my iPhoto library of ~10,000 photos into Photos after updating to 10.10.3. My library in Photos has ~13,000 photos. I notice albums from years ago have photos I thought I had deleted at the time. Is there a reason this has happened, and is there any way to remove those extra photos?

Perhaps you didn't empty iPhoto trash? If you didn't and Photos has imported them because they were still in iPhoto then you may only have an option to remove them by re-deleting each one.

That's what I thought at first. I checked, and I had ~22,000(!) photos in the trash, and they all imported to Photo's deleted items. These ~3,000 photos are separate from these.

Hmmm - in that case without knowing what selection criteria Photos applied, it will be very difficult to apply one to re-delete them en masse :-(
