I'm a mac newbie and I cannot figure out how to import an image via a scanner into Illustrator. Help...puh-lease!

Because scanned images are bitmaps and Illustrator is a vector-based design tool, you can't scan directly into it.

You can, however, import a previously-scanned file into Illustrator to use as a backdrop or for tracing purposes. Just scan your image using your regular scanner tools or Photoshop. Save the file (ideally as a .tif) and then open or place it in Illustrator.
