So I just bought this new cd, an HDCD, and it when i put it in my ibook it just spins around and it spits it out 30 seconds later. It won't show up in the finder as a cd or even in itunes. It says HDCD on the jewel case so im thinkin that could be it? Every other cd I own works fine.

Read HDCD with iTunes

I just encountered the same problem. However, HDCDs are (should be) backward compatible with normal audio CDs. The trick was to open Disc Utility, select the CD and press "Activate". It then appears as a normal audio CD and can be imported. The HDCD extra bits are lost though.

HDCDs work just fine on my MBP (vintage 2006)

I realize I'm late to this discussion, but for what it's worth, my Macbook pro that I purchased in mid 2006 has never had a problem playing HDCDs; I just insert them and away they go (i.e. I don't have to futz around with any other apps or system settings). Whether it actually is able to decode the HDCD part, I don't know...Good luck
