I'm editing some demo reels for a couple of actors and some of their clips are only available on Blu Ray discs they have provided. What is the best way to import footage from BD into FCPX so it can be trimmed, edited, etc. & retain the high resolution?
Thanks!

Not necessarily the best way, but a free way is to convert to ProRes using FFmpeg.

ffmpeg -i inputfile.m2ts -c:v prores_ks -profile:v 3 -c:a alac output.mov

I use MakeMKV to create the MKV and then use Video Container Switcher (made by @floh) to remux the MKV to an MP4 or MOV, thus FCP can read the file, as it just uses the H.264 codec. If your Mac is powerful enough to scrub through H.264 within FCP, there is no need to transcode to ProRes (which also takes up up to ten times more storage space).

Handbrake can rip unprotected BlueRay disks. You may need something like MakeMKV if the disks have DRM on them.
