I have an iPod Classic 120GB and I'm running out of room on it (less than 1GB space left) so space is important. My default importing bitrate has always been 128 kbps but ever since I downloaded iTunes 10, the default bitrate is 256 kbps aka 'iTunes Plus'. I've gone to preferences and tried to change the default back to 128, which it allows me to do, until I 'Save Options'. Then, when I reopen preferences, the default is ALWAYS reset to 256/iTunes Plus. It WILL NOT let me import at 128. Very frustrating.

Any suggestions to restore the preferences back to allow 128kbps importing? And yes I realize that 256kbps is better sound quality, I prefer 128.

It's remembering the setting for me. Perhaps you could try deleting (back it up first) your iTunes.plist preferences file in ~/Library/Preferences and setting it again.

I remember that I can change the setting freely without any trouble and it apply immediately. It's really a tough thing for you.
