Importing Check Marks from Digital Photo Professional to Aperture

I have switched from Canon Digital Photo Professional to Aperture. My photos are rated in DPP with Check Marks 1,2 & 3. How do I convert this to ratings in Aperture. At the moment I can't even see the DPP check marks in the expanded EXIF metadata view in Aperture. Any help will be much appreciated.
