So i have a Vixia HV40 linked up to my firewire to import video footage. But i would like to export it through my lacie hardrive that normally uses firewire for speed. WOuld it be good enough to capture it through the hardrive if it USB? or wil lit run slower like i hear?

If you mean, you want to connect the HDD to your Mac via USB, and then connect the camcorder via Firewire to the HDD's Firewire port, then that will not work, as the camera will not be recognised.
If you want to connect the HDD via USB and connect the camcorder via Firewire directly to your Mac's Firewire port, then that will work.
If you want to connect the HDD via Firewire and also connect the camcorder to your HDD's Firewire port, then that will work too.
