I use Quark Xpress and have to import from word documents. I have a problem in that sometimes it doesn't import the whole of the word document. So I have to double check everytime I import something to make sure that the whole file has been imported.

What can I do to stop this happening. It doesn't happen all the time which is what makes it so frustrating.:(

Which version of Quark are you using? Maybe it's time to reinstall the MS-Word 6-2000 filter Xtension.

Have you also tried resaving the Word document to a different earlier legacy version? Or saving it to a .txt file?

One reason why I don't import so much from Word any more, is that it pulls in all the rubbishy RGB colours plus there seems to be a problem with fixed vs. flexible spaces with Quark 6.5 and Word 97 for Windows anyway, so I tend to save it as a .txt file from Mac Word 2004 itself.

It's Quark 6.0

I haven't tried saving them as .txt files, cause sometimes they work ok as .doc files. Never know when it's gonna screw about. I thought it was just on articles that were long (over a page) but I've had it with files that only have about 10 lines of writing! I'd rather not use word but all my customers send their articles in word documents.

What version of Word are these files arriving in?

But first of all, update Quark to 6.5. It's free right here. See if that helps.

There's something very wrong going on if you're having probs with 10-line documents. If I wanted to, I could import an entire book into Quark from Word with no hiccups apart from the ones I mentioned above.

Anyway, with 1-2 page documents it's easier to copy and paste into the Quark document itself unless you want to import the stylesheets as well. Mind you, when you do that you have to keep an eye out for 'dumb' quotes (i.e. feet and inch characters instead of 'curly' speech quotes).

But when I try and copy and paste in to quark it beeps at me and won't let me do it.

Another Problem Importing from Word to Quark

Hi,

Sorry if I should have started a new thread - but I couldn't see how!

I have a little advice to anyone who still has the problems mentioned: export from Word to a .rtf file format. The use Quark's Get Text command. Choose to retain styles if given the option. This seems to work better at getting all the styles to come thru.

Here's my problem - Importing Word files which have EPS pictures results in a Quark document with ... NO pictures!

I tried this with Word 2004 for Mac, and Quark Passport 6.5 and Quark 7 for Mac.

Anyone get this to work?
