importing music from LP

Excuse me if this has been covered elsewhere - I tried the search function but had no luck.

I have a turntable/receiver setup near my imac. What software do I need to bring in music off of the stereo and into the computer - ultimately into itunes? Also - should I use the earphone output on the stereo, or the RCA jacks on the back?
